One of my flights to Korea, I decided to visit Nami Island. It was winter time, but it didn’t stop me from leaving the city. This small half moon shaped island in Chuncheon, South Korea is a nice place to go. You can always take a short train ride out from Seoul to Nami Island. My trip began at 8:30 am, since I only have a few hours to spend in the island. Just to give you a brief history of this place, the name was originated from General Nami who died at the age of 28. Although his grave was not found they said that there were a pile of stones where he was supposed to be buried. Some say that if someone took even one stone from there, it will bring misfortune. The place was developed by a tour company into an amusement park. Also this island is known from the Korean Drama “Winter Sonata”.
This trip will take you about 1 hour and 30 minutes. It is not advisable to take a nap during this trip coz you might miss the stations to change line. As you need to change train line 3 times for this trip.
There is another option incase you don’t want to take the ferry, the other option is zip-lining. But of course, you can’t do it during winter time.
When I was about to leave, I felt happy and contented that I was able to reach this place even for a short period of time. I was amazed by the beauty of nature, I can’t even stop taking pictures of each and every corner of this place. I will definitely go back again to explore more of what this island has to offer.
Before heading back to the city, Chuncheon is famous for its Dakgalbi (spicy grilled chicken and vegetables) because there’s plenty of poultry farms around the area. The food is really fresh and delicious! A must try!
