As our New York adventure ended, we continued our U.S. trip and headed to LA! But our supposed to be stress free 5hrs-flying time to California turned into a huge mess. When I was still in Manila, I booked our flight to California online. I was confident about the process since I’ve been doing this for a long time already. But once we arrived at the airport, we went straight to the counter only to find out that we can’t fly to LA because our names are not on the list. What I did was, I called the agency where I booked our tickets. When they checked their system I was informed that our reservation didn’t go through the 3rd party, but what’s weird is they sent me a confirmation. I even told my friends to book their flight on the same website. Fortunately for them, their booking went through the 3rd party but ours didn’t.
To cut all this mess, we were told that the only choice we had is to purchase tickets on that same day just to be able to fly out. Originally, it was $250 for the two of us which turned into a $950 ticket! Since we don’t have any choice, we got the $950 ticket on the spot. Just when we thought that we’re good to go and don’t have any problem, we had a 6hr layover in Florida which wasn’t stated on the ticket. We had no choice but to stay in the airport for 6hrs. While waiting, I texted my dad with different time of our arrival because of the change of flights. Our day couldn’t get any worse, I texted him the wrong time! Maybe because I was so tired that time I forgot to double check. My dad waited for us at the airport for 3 hours! We arrived very late at night and everything was closed. We went straight to our hotel and rest.
The next day, my dad picked us up at our hotel to have breakfast. One of the reasons why we visited LA was to see my dad, since we rarely see each other. It was nice to catch up with him after a long time and even brought us around Orange County.
After breakfast, our first stop was at San Juan Capistrano and went to Mission San Juan Capistrano for a church visit. San Juan Capistrano is one of the cities in Orange County. The whole city resembles the Spanish architecture including the houses and strip malls. It has a wide variety of houses in Orange County that was built prior to 1990. This city is the site of the Catholic mission; Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Is a small city in Orange County and known for many art galleries and beaches. We went to the main beach for a while and walked around the shore, but left immediately because it was about to rain and was too windy.
Balboa Pier, Newport Beach
Because of the changing weather, we decided to hang out around the pier and look over the beach. We rested for a while before we went on the ferry. Among all the piers that I’ve been to, the piers in Orange County is my favorite. It is less crowded and has peaceful serenity and you can enjoy the view perfectly.
After hanging around and taking advantage of the beautiful view, we went to Ruby’s Diner (separate blog) for lunch.
From Newport Beach we went to Balboa via Ferry.

It is nice to drop by the 100-year old Main Street while in Huntington Beach. They have different shops and places to eat while getting some heat from the sun. It is a perfect place to spend time while waiting for the sun to set. It’s also nice to hang around the pier because you can see a lot of people surfing in the beach.
After our stroll in the main street and pier, we visited my dad’s house since he live nearby. We did a lot of catching up and talked about the times we spent away from each other. It’s nice to be able see him again after a while.
It was a day well spent exploring different beaches and piers. Thankfully the sky cleared up!
